Tuition Payment
Tuition and fees are due 48 hours prior to the first day of the semester, or the first lesson or class for late registration.  You may pay with a check, cash or charge (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover).  There is a $50 service charge for returned checks.  Students whose tuition is not paid in full, who have not set up a payment plan, or whose payment plan is in arrears, will not be admitted to their first/next lesson or class.

The Conservatory desires that families be able to manage the cost of instruction within their budgets. We offer a payment plan option to those families registering for a minimum total tuition balance of $500 or more per semester.   A completed payment plan application is required for each semester and a credit card which will be charged automatically by the Conservatory for each scheduled installment. Applications can be picked up at the Front Desk.  There is a service charge of $10 per installment. In the event that credit cards are declined when processed, an additional fee of $25 may be charged.  Payment plan privileges may be withdrawn at the discretion of MCW for failure to adhere to the terms of the agreement.

Scholarships and Discounts
Scholarships are available for students ages 18 and under, based on documented financial need.  For more information contact Jean Newton, Dean of Students and Faculty (jean@musiced.org or 914-761-3900 ext. 112).
Family Discount: $50 for each additional family member taking a full semester of individual lessons, or one person taking two sets of lessons for a full semester.  $25 for each additional family member taking a group class.
Referral Discount: Refer a friend who takes a full semester of individual lessons and get a one-time per new family  $100 discount off your tuition bill for the following semester.  $50 off if your friend takes a group class with tuition of $595 or more.

Refunds
Individual Instruction:  The $50 registration fee is non-refundable.  Students who withdraw prior to the day of the first lesson receive a full tuition refund.  Students who withdraw prior to the sixth lesson receive a refund for the balance of lessons not taken, minus two-lesson penalty.  Students who withdraw later than the sixth lesson receive no refund unless they move away or there is a prolonged illness.  In this case, the balance of tuition is refunded, minus the two-lesson penalty.
Group Classes:  The $25 registration fee is non-refundable.  Students withdrawing more than one week prior to the start of classes receive a full refund.  Students who withdraw one week or less before the first class receive a refund minus a $50 penalty.  No refunds are given for withdrawal after the first class.  The Conservatory reserves the right to cancel group classes due to insufficient enrollment, in which case full payment is refunded with no penalty.

Cancellation and Make-up Lesson Policy
Students who register for a full semester of 16 individual lessons are entitled to two make-ups per semester for absence due to illness or other unavoidable circumstances.  Students who register after the sixth week of the semester will receive one make-up lesson if registered for 6-10 lessons, and no make-ups for fewer than 6 lessons.  To qualify for makeup lessons, the Conservatory must be notified at (914) 761-3900 according to the following schedule: For cancelled afternoon or evening lessons, notification must be made by 9:30 am on the day of the lesson.  For cancelled morning lessons, notification must be made by 8:00 pm the previous night.
Failure to provide this notification will result in forfeiture of the make-up lesson. Missed make-up lessons will not be rescheduled.   Make-up lessons are NOT provided for absences from group classes.

Students also receive make-ups for lessons or classes cancelled due to teacher absence and weather-related closings.  An announcement will be recorded on the Conservatory’s answering machine; some local radio and TV stations (WFAS, news channel 12) will broadcast announcements of closings.
Lessons from fall semester 2010 must be used by the end of spring semester 2011. Lessons from  spring semester 2011 must be used by August 31, 2011. Lessons not used by these dates will be forfeited.
