Exciting New Music Explorers Classes This Fall

For Ages 5–7

Starting this October, the Music Conservatory of Westchester is proud to introduce Music Explorers — a dynamic introductory music program specially designed for children ages 5 to 7.

Inspired by the Orff Schulwerk approach, Music Explorers engages young learners in music-making through movement, singing, and hands-on instrument play. The program encourages creativity, coordination, and joyful exploration in a fun, supportive environment.

Join us this fall for Music Explorers — where young musicians grow through play, performance, and creativity!

A Unique Experience

Introduce your child to the fundamentals of music at MCW, using games and creative expression to teach concepts such as melody, rhythm, phrasing, dynamics and more. We'll give your child the best possible start in music and you'll have lots of fun exploring music as a family.

From enhancing language skills and improving memory to fostering relationships and self-expression, music education has a profound impact on the growth and development of young children.

The Conservatory's expert staff can customize a program based on your child's skill set. Our staff can call or meet with you and your child to determine his/her readiness for a specific program or private lessons.

  • Program Highlights:
    • Age-Specific Classes: Two class levels (ages 5 and 6–7) that build confidence in movement and vocal expression.
    •  Foundational Music Skills: Children explore key musical elements — beat, rhythm, melody, tempo, dynamics, articulation, and improvisation — through interactive play.
    • Instrumental Discovery: Students develop instrumental skills using a wide variety of pitched Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels, resonator bells) and unpitched percussion, including hand drums, temple blocks, shakers, triangles, finger cymbals, tone blocks, guiros, and rhythm sticks.
    • Sensory Engagement: Learning is guided through sensory experiences that awaken musical awareness, language development, and expressive listening.
    • Experienced Faculty: Classes are led by experienced instructors with a deep passion for early childhood music education.
    • Creative Expression: Lessons integrate storytelling, dramatization, and movement, allowing children to learn music through playful, imaginative experiences.
  • Contact Charlotte Moore: charlotte@musiced.org.
  • Introduce your child to the joy of playing an instrument! Build their creativity, discipline, and teamwork in this supportive introduction to the Suzuki method. Explore four instruments: violin, cello, piano, and guitar.
  • Contact Silvia Grendze: silvia@musiced.org.
  • The Suzuki philosophy is centered on the belief that, "Every Child Can."
  • At the Music Conservatory of Westchester, our specially-trained, Suzuki certified teachers are committed to meeting students where they are and instructing them in a way that allows them to grow at their own musical pace.
  • We build a strong relationship between teacher and student through playing their instrument, learning early note reading, and interacting musically with their peers using a creative and individualized approach.
  • Includes two classes per week – Private Lesson and Group Class. Music Skills or Music Theory is optional, but recommended.
  • For more information on our Suzuki program click here or to learn more information on the Suzuki method, visit the Suzuki Association of America website

Guitar Explorers:

    • Young beginners learn and develop guitar-playing skills in a group of other students who have never previously learned guitar. A parent or caregiver attends weekly classes with their child and guides at-home practice.
    • Students should bring in your own guitar for the classes and for practice at home. Instruments may be provided based on availability and need for in-class use.

Kids learn:

  • The basics of rhythm, melody, chords, and instrumental technique.
  • Playing music together through duets and familiar children's songs.
  • Social skills such as listening, leading and taking turns.
  • Self-confidence through performance.

Piano Explorers:

    • Using a blend of different teaching methods and materials, students learn basic piano skills in a nurturing environment with their peers. For the Pre-K/K classes, a parent or caregiver attends weekly classes with the student and guides at-home practice. Classes will be taken place in our Digital Piano Lab and each session will end with a recital performance.
