MCW summer programs are a great way for young musicians of all ages to explore their creativity, try fun new activities, and hone their music skills.

Summer Programs Teaching
Digital Music Production Workshops for Middle and High School Students

Intro to Digital Music Production for Middle School Students

  • Dates: Mon.& Wed: August 1, August 3, August 8, August 10
  • Time: 4:00-6:30pm
  • Tuition: $225.00
  • Learn practices in music creation through Garage Band and Bandlab
  • Students will leave the workshop with a collection of original work from projects exploring song
    form with loops, podcasting, and sequencing drums
  • No prerequisite, but prior experience playing an instrument is preferred

    Digital Music Production for High School Students

    • Dates: Tues.& Thurs: August 2, August 4, August 9, August 11
    • Time: 4:00-7:00pm
    • Tuition: $275.00
    • Learn Digital Production workflow before advancing to the industry standard, Pro Tools, and learn
      microphone techniques
    • Students will begin creating their portfolio of original works consisting of electronic music
      compositions as well as compositions with recorded audio
    • No prerequisite, but prior experience playing an instrument is preferred
    Suzuki Beginner Special (ages 4 - 7)
    • Learn three different instruments – the violin, cello, and piano – with this exceptional two-week beginners’ class.
    • Students attend a group and semi-private lesson each day with our certified Suzuki instructors and rotate instruments, which we provide. Utilizing the Suzuki philosophy, children are introduced to the fundamentals of each instrument and learn about making music in a sharing environment. Interactive involvement with parents/caregivers will take place on the final day.
    • Ages: 4 – 7 years
    • Dates: July 11th – July 22nd
      • Monday – Friday
    • Times: 4:00pm – 5:00pm
    • Tuition: $400
      • A $25 registration fee and $30 materials fee will apply

    Music and Arts (grades K - 6)
    • Music & Arts is the Conservatory’s flagship summer day program, offering a variety of in-person classes with half- and full-day options. The morning block has two track options to choose from: Strings
      (includes guitar and violin), or Piano (learn in our new digital piano lab and discover your keyboard and mallet skills) Enrichment classes throughout the day include arts & crafts, dance and creative movement, singing, musical theatre and – new this year – our Improv Expo. No experience is required.
    • Early drop-off and late pick-up options are available. Continuous supervision is provided by faculty or staff with approved counselors. Covid-19 health and safety building guidelines will remain in place.
    • Ages: Students entering grades K – 6
    • Dates: Monday – Friday
      • Session 1: June 27th – July 8th (no classes July 4th)
      • Session 2: July 11th – 22nd
      • Session 3: July 25th – August 5th

      • Full day: 9:00am – 3:30pm
      • Half day: 9:00am – 12:30pm
      • Early drop-off: from 8:15am | Late pick-up: until 5:30pm

    Musical Theatre Immersion (grades 2 - 7)

    Drum roll please! Our feature show for summer 2022 is:

    FEEFIFOFUM

    • Join us for two weeks in August for our children’s musical production. Under the direction of senior voice faculty member Mary Elizabeth Poore, students who enroll begin with an informal audition process, then work in small and large groups as they memorize scripts, develop characters, practice vocal numbers, and work with a choreographer and prop & set designer. The show will be staged and filmed on the final day, August 19th at 2:30pm.

      • Monday – Friday
    • Times: 9:00am – 3:30pm
      • Early drop-off: from 8:15am | Late pick-up: until 5:30pm
    • Ages: Students entering grades 2 – 7
    • Tuition: $900
      • Promotion: $800 if registered by April 1st | $850 if by May 15th

    Orchestra Program (grades 5 - 7)
    • Instrumentalists who play violin, viola, cello, or double bass can join this day program offering a complete experience for the orchestral musician. Students rehearse daily with our director of orchestras and attend musicianship classes in various topics, as well as daily individual practice blocks. Prospective students will submit a short video of their playing, please email jake@musiced.org for instructions. A filmed performance of selected orchestral works will take place on the final day, Friday, July 22nd.

      • Monday – Friday
    • Times: 9:00am – 3:30pm
      • Early drop-off: 8:15am – 8:45am | Late pick-up: 3:30pm – 5:30pm

    Concert Band Program (grades 5 - 7)
    • Instrumentalists who play brass, woodwind, or percussion instruments can join this day program to focus on honing their instrumental and ensemble skills. Students rehearse daily with a conductor, practice in sections and individually, and improve their musicianship with classes like lab piano, chorus, and improvisation. Prospective students will submit a short video of their playing, please email jake@musiced.org for instructions. A filmed performance of selected concert band works will take place on the final day, Friday, August 5th.

    • Dates: July 25th – August 5th
      • Monday – Friday
    • Times: 9:00am – 3:30pm
      • Early drop-off: 8:15am – 8:45am | Late pick-up: 3:30pm – 5:30pm

    Jazz Workshop (grades 8 - 12)
    • Our Summer Jazz Workshop is here! Open for students who are playing at NYSSMA level 4 and above, evenings consist of an improvisation class followed by a full band rehearsal with a conductor. Students hone their musicianship reading standard and contemporary repertoire and will be encouraged to implement their improvisation vocabulary.
    • Instruments: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drum set. Flute, clarinet and violin are also welcome to apply!
      • Pre-screening video with a selection of the student’s choice is required for seating placement.
    • The workshop will take place safely in the Conservatory’s large Recital Hall. Covid-19 health and safety building guidelines will remain in place.
    • We are thrilled to announce this year’s conductor will be John Replogle The class and rehearsal will take place safely in the Conservatory’s large Recital Hall.

    • This exciting opportunity is open to students in 8th – 12th grade who are playing at NYSSMA level 4 and above.Violin, viola, cello, and upright bass players will enjoy playing together in this in-person orchestra conducted by the Music Conservatory of Westchester’s Director of Orchestras, Nicole Peragine.
    • Rehearsals will take place safely in the Conservatory’s large ensemble room.
    • Music selections will be a mix of standard string orchestra repertoire and works by composers from under-represented communities.
    • Pre-screening video with a selection of the student’s choice is required for seating placement.
