MUSIC EDUCATION FOR OVER 90 YEARS

About

In 1929, despite growing economic collapse from The Great Depression, a group of Westchester County community leaders had a vision – to share the gift of music with a world that needed respite.

Our founders created scholarships so that everyone had the chance to benefit from master-level instruction and inspiration. Notably famed cellist Pablo Casals, was one of the founders and jazz legend Cab Calloway once sat on our board.

Since its establishment over 93 years ago, MCW has been committed to its mission of maintaining excellence in music education and serving the broadest possible population.

MCW serves 3,000 students of all ages and abilities every year. From pre-kindergarten through retirees, we make music education accessible to everyone, and work tirelessly to provide scholarship assistance so virtually anyone with a passion for music can participate.

MCW is equally committed to providing an inclusive environment where students can emotionally benefit and grow from the transformative power of music.

Our Music Therapy Institute provides music programs for students with disabilities, including wounded military veterans, both onsite in the MCW building and in collaboration with 30 community partners (public schools, special education programs, medical facilities and social service agencies).

One of only sixteen non-degree-granting schools nationwide to be accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Conservatory has inspired generations of students, and contributed to a vibrant musical life in the county, region and beyond.

Looking To The Future
Technology Based Learning Opportunities

Looking to The Future

MCW has sturdy roots in the timeless traditions of instrumental and vocal music. Today we are building on that tradition by embracing what technology can bring to composing, practicing, recording and sharing music.

Our facilities will expand in Spring 2022 with a state-of-the-art audio-video Recording Studio and Digital Piano Lab, along with new studio space for percussion, rehearsals, and music therapy programs. Supported entirely by contributions, the new facilities will house Westchester’s very first precollege program in recording Engineering and Music Production, as well as other technology-based learning opportunities.

This project is just one example of MCW’s commitment to a vibrant future for all the people who will learn and grow through music.

Our goal is to harness the advantages that digital technology can offer so our students can be engaged with the world(s) of music as they evolve.

Our Mission

To provide the extraordinary benefits of music to all in our community.
