He received his education from the University of Georgia, Michigan State, Montclair State, and Texas Tech. Saikat maintains a private studio of students in the Hudson Valley and serves as violin and chamber music faculty at Music Conservatory of Westchester. In his free time, he enjoys playing badminton and other racket sports and spending time with his family.

Faculty since 2026

Dr. Saikat Karmakar performs on violin and viola in the Hudson Valley and West Texas regions. He serves as Assistant Principal Violin II for the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra and plays second violin in the Hudson Valley String Quartet. He has recently performed with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra, Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra, Hudson Valley Symphony Orchestra, and other ensembles in the area. Previously he has worked as a core member of the West Texas Symphony and Ohio Light Opera. 

Alongside performing on the violin, Saikat worked as Lead Audio Engineer for the Texas Tech University School of Music and continues to record through his company, Karmakar Productions.
