Alessandro is a NYS-licensed and board-certified music therapist, with over 20 years of experience working with medical and psychiatric populations as well as in educational settings. He’s been a staff music therapist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center since 2006. Former faculty at NYU, created the Guitar Syllabus for NYU’s Masters of Music Therapy program, and taught Guitar Foundations at NYU from 2015 through 2023. Author of the chapter on Music Therapy in the handbook titled Comprehensive Integrative Oncology, published by the Dana Farber Institute in 2026. Alessandro plays jazz, rock, classical music and everything in between; he is a vocalist, and a composer, and he plays guitar in the weekly Jazz Mass on Sundays at the Ascension Church on the Upper West Side.
Teaching Philosophy
I believe that music is the absence of illness. Music is the great healer, restoring flow and positive energy to our lives, and I am humbled to be able to bring music to hospitalized individuals and Conservatory students alike.
