Michael Pollon (1913-1996) joined the Conservatory faculty in 1938 and served as its Executive Director from 1964 to 1985. Under his leadership the school earned accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music and grew to become the region’s premiere place for high quality community music education. Mr. Pollon mentored students like concert pianist Garrick Ohlsson and New York Philharmonic flutist Mindy Kaufman who would go on to major careers. Born in Vienna, he studied piano and musicology in Berlin and Prague, where his teachers included renowned conductor George Szell. His legacy of excellence, leadership and musicianship continues to this day. The Conservatory is proud to accept planned gifts in his memory.
