To maximize a student’s musical potential, it’s important to start an instrument and stick with it over time. To help navigate the road to musical success, we’ll guide your teen to choose the right lessons and classes.

YOUTH & TEENS

What We Offer

Private instruction is offered in-person at the Conservatory and online with our professional faculty in piano, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, harp, and harpsichord.

  • Our world-class teachers use an individualized approach for each student, based on age, goals, and learning style.
  • Lessons are available throughout the year, including summer.
  • The Conservatory experience includes more than just lessons. Tuition includes:

Using the Royal Conservatory of Music curriculum, these theory classes provide a thorough understanding of musical structure.

  • Students explore and reinforce foundational skills through music analysis, improvisation, ear training, and composition.
  • Placement test or completion of prior level required.
  • Tuition varies based on level.

Large Ensembles

For young string students with at least one year of prior instruction and the ability to read on all four strings. Come be a part of our orchestra community while playing music from the classical, traditional, and popular repertoire.

  • Open to students who have completed at least the first half of Suzuki Book 1 or equivalent and have basic reading skills.
  • The group plays ensemble pieces with simple harmonization, based on familiar themes from classical, traditional and popular repertoire.
  • A placement audition is required.

This dynamic ensemble offers advancing middle and high school wind, brass, and percussion players the opportunity to perform exciting repertoire in a supportive and challenging environment. Students will develop ensemble skills, refine technique, and explore a wide range of musical styles under the guidance of experienced conductors. Open to student with at least three years of playing experience.

Advance your vocal and sight-reading skills while singing with other voice and instrumental students. Learn classical and musical theatre repertoire in three- and four-part harmony, with featured soloists.

  • Teen Vocal Ensemble is a challenging and enjoyable opportunity for students to work together as a group, learning to blend their voices and sing in parts.
  • The ensemble sings musical theatre and classical repertoire and is open to voice and instrumental students.
  • A placement assessment is required to determine vocal range.

 

 

For young students who love to sing! Experience rehearsing in an ensemble while having fun learning unison and simple two-part music written for kids. Students learn the basics of correct singing, general musicianship, and how to read two-part choral music, in a relaxed environment of music making!

  • Offers a nurturing, enjoyable ensemble experience open to all instrumental and vocal students
  • Students explore their vocal capabilities through unison and simple two-part vocal music ranging from folk songs to popular tunes.
  • The chorus performs at the Conservatory and in various community locations.

 

 

Small Ensembles

Piano students (grades 5-12) and experienced adult pianists are matched by skill level and coached in four-bands and/or two-piano repertoire.

For string, woodwind and piano students who have appropriate technical and sight-reading skills and are taking private lessons. Students are organized into trios and quartets to rehearse and perform a variety of chamber music repertoire.

Join the band! Guitar, electric bass, piano/keyboard, drums, and voice students rehearse and perform classic rock, blues, funk, and favorite pop songs by the The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, Jason Mraz and others.

Teaches the basic principles of songwriting – melody, harmony, rhythm, improvisation, and lyrics. Students develop their individual style by applying various concepts and techniques to their own ideas, through various assignments and guided composition tools. Students will create and perform their original compositions based on their personal aesthetic. Some musical experience required.

For instrumentalists and vocalists with strong technical and reading skills. Explore improvisation and chord structure within a variety of jazz styles.
