Intro to Digital Music Production for Middle School Students

  • Dates: Mon.& Wed: August 1, August 3, August 8, August 10

  • Learn practices in music creation through Garage Band and Bandlab
  • Students will leave the workshop with a collection of original work from projects exploring song
    form with loops, podcasting, and sequencing drums
  • No prerequisite, but prior experience playing an instrument is preferred

    Digital Music Production for High School Students

    • Dates: Tues.& Thurs: August 2, August 4, August 9, August 11
    • Time: 4:00-7:00pm
    • Tuition: $275.00
    • Learn Digital Production workflow before advancing to the industry standard, Pro Tools, and learn
      microphone techniques
    • Students will begin creating their portfolio of original works consisting of electronic music
      compositions as well as compositions with recorded audio
    • No prerequisite, but prior experience playing an instrument is preferred

Utilizing the Suzuki philosophy, children are introduced to the fundamentals of each instrument and learn about making music in a sharing environment. Interactive involvement with parents/caregivers will take place on the final day.

      (includes guitar and violin), or Piano (learn in our new digital piano lab and discover your keyboard and mallet skills) Enrichment classes throughout the day include arts & crafts, dance and creative movement, singing, musical theatre and – new this year – our Improv Expo. No experience is required.

    • Join us for two weeks in August for our children’s musical production. Under the direction of senior voice faculty member Mary Elizabeth Poore, students who enroll begin with an informal audition process, then work in small and large groups as they memorize scripts, develop characters, practice vocal numbers, and work with a choreographer and prop & set designer. The show will be staged and filmed on the final day, August 19th at 2:30pm.

    • Our Summer Jazz Workshop is here! Open for students who are playing at NYSSMA level 4 and above, evenings consist of an improvisation class followed by a full band rehearsal with a conductor. Students hone their musicianship reading standard and contemporary repertoire and will be encouraged to implement their improvisation vocabulary.
    • Instruments: saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drum set. Flute, clarinet and violin are also welcome to apply!
      • Pre-screening video with a selection of the student’s choice is required for seating placement.
    • The workshop will take place safely in the Conservatory’s large Recital Hall. Covid-19 health and safety building guidelines will remain in place.

    • Manhattan Chamber Players performance at 5:00 pm: WA Mozart: Flute Quartet No. 1 in D major, K 285; Johannes Brahms; Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, Op. 60
